After appearing on the series since Season 2 on a recurring basis, the ABC Shonda Rhimes soap Scandal has promoted Joe Morton to series regular, reports THR.
As Rowan Pope, aka Eli Pope, the father of Olivia (Kerry Washington), Morton is the leader of a questionable black ops organization known as B613. In 2014, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role.
“Now I can cast some serious shade on a regular basis,” Morton told THR.
During his recurring status, Morton had a lead role on the short-lived TNT series Proof and appeared on the Netflix series Grace and Frankie.
Morton joins Portia de Rossi (Elizabeth North), who was promoted at the end of season four; and Cornelius Smith Jr., who guest starred last season as Marcus Walker and was brought in to be the show’s newest Gladiator at Olivia Pope & Associates.
