At last night’s Marvel Comic-Con session inside Hall H, Marvel prez Kevin Feige announced that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is set to play Blade in a reboot from Kevin Feige’s MCU. No other details were revealed.
The original from New Line Cinema starred Wesley Snipes in 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II, and 2004’s Blade: Trinity. Marvel then relaunched the character on TV with Blade: The Series in 2006 starring Sticky Fingaz. That only lasted for one season.
Blade follows a half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires. New Line churned out three films.
The Blade Trilogy from New Line Cinema helped shepherd comic books and superheroes to the big screen. Combined, the three films brought in over $400 million at the global box office. Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan as a supporting character in the comic book “The Tomb of Dracula” #10 in July of 1973.
