Black Jesus, the half-hour live-action scripted comedy series from Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks, Red Tails) and Mike Clattenburg (Trailer Park Boys), will premiere its second season on Friday, September 18th at 11:00 p.m. E/P on Adult Swim.
During its premiere season, episodes of Black Jesus consistently won its timeslots across basic cable in key adult and male demos 18-24/34/49.
The two-disc Black Jesus Season One DVD is currently available.
The series finds Jesus living in present day Compton, CA with his small, but loyal group of downtrodden followers. The second season picks up with Jesus back on the streets after a brief incarceration, only to find his band of disciples has fallen on hard times. Jesus wants the gang to go straight – earn legit money and spread the word of God to the masses. Easier said than done, and it isn’t long before the Most High and his apostles are back to their old ways.
The series stars Gerald “Slink” Johnson as “Jesus.” The series also stars Charlie Murphy (Chappelle’s Show), Corey Holcomb (The Cleveland Show), John Witherspoon (The Boondocks), Kali Hawk (Bridesmaids), Andra Fuller (L.A. Complex), Antwon Tanner (One Tree Hill), Andrew Bachelor (House of Lies), Angela Gibbs (The Fosters), and Valenzia Algarin (True Blood).
McGruder executive produces through his 5 Mutts Productions, along with director Mike Clattenburg, LEG’s Norman Aladjem, John Bravakis and Stu Schreiberg; Robert Wise, and Meghann Collins Robertson.
