Serayah on Sudden Fame, Focus, Upcoming Project “Envy” and More!

blackfilm.com correspondent Koku Tona sits with Serayah for a reflective look on her success and her upcoming projects “Envy”(Lifetime) and “Favorite Son” (BET). Serayah is best known for starring in the massive cultural phenomenon “Empire” (FOX), as Tiana Brown.

She discussed spending her childhood in San Diego and Atlanta, and her passion for singing, dancing, and acting. What may initially seem like a serendipitous journey to fame is much more than that, as Serayah’s work ethic is rarely matched. She cites Beyoncé as an example of someone who is on top of their game and still driven to work hard.

For Serayah music fans, there’s even more to look forward to, as she has a new single coming out featuring Rick Ross. Serayah also joins the cast of the 50 Cent produced “Black Mafia Family“. Watch the interview and let us know what you think!

“Envy” Synopsis:

From Executive producer TD Jakes (Miracles From Heaven) and director Damon Lee (Obsessed), the film follows streetwise ‘Keisha Jones’ (Serayah) the daughter of a prostitute whose her biological father has no idea that she exists. Keisha has followed from a distance the glamorous life of her half-sister ‘Gabrielle,’ the co- owner of a successful PR firm. When ‘Elijah’ learns of her existence and summons her to Atlanta for a first meeting with her family, Keisha goes, with a smile on her face but vicious envy in her heart, determined to pull down Gabrielle’s happy life, like Samson pulled down the walls of the palace.  Envy will premiere April 17, 2021.

“Favorite Son” Synopsis:

Directed by actress/director Robin Givens, the movie follows the loves of two twin brothers, ‘Camden’ and ‘Blaine’ and their relationship with their father and following their own paths in life. In the film, Serayah plays the lead role of ‘Dawn,’ who is a soprano with Camden and Blaine’s church Gospel group and Camden’s girlfriend. Dawn has been “saving” herself for marriage, but she is increasingly upset because he is dragging his feet about proposing. When he elects to go to Atlanta to pursue his music career, she’s devastated, despite the fact that he assures her it’s short term. In his absence, she allows herself to be seduced by his twin brother Blaine, and becomes pregnant ending her relationship with Camden for good. She winds up married to Blaine, a disastrous union that seems headed for the rocks until unexpected adversity may heal the rifts in their fractured marriage. The “Favorite Son” premiere date is forthcoming.
