Singing Duo Chloe x Halle To Recur On Freeform’s ‘Grown-ish,’ spinoff of ABC‘s ‘Black-ish’Posted by Wilson Morales

Singing duo Chloe x Halle (Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey) have been added as recurring members to Freeform’s ‘Grown-ish,‘ spinoff of ABC‘s Black-ish, while Francia Raisa (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Jordan Buhat (Summer of ’84) are cast as series regulars.
A spin-off of ABC’s award-winning hit series “black-ish,” Yara Shahidi stars as Zoey Johnson and Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy.
Both Shahidi and Cole will concurrently appear on both shows, as well as Anthony Anderson (Dre Johnson) and Tracee Ellis Ross (Bow Johnson).
“Grown-ish” follows the Johnson’s eldest daughter Zoey (Yara Shahidi) as she heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest. From “black-ish” executive producer Kenya Barris comes a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education. Yara is joined by ”black-ish”’s Deon Cole (Charlie), who moonlights as an adjunct marketing professor, as well as funny new characters both in the administration and student body who all reflect the complex and hilarious points of views that populate college campuses.
Raisa will portray Ana, an outspoken conservative freshman at Southern California University. Buhat will play Vivek, a first generation Indian-American freshman at Southern California University with an endearing lack of self-awareness. Singing sisters Chloe x Halle portray twin sisters Sky and Jazz, who are on the track team at the college.
Trevor Jackson (American Crime), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live), and Emily Arlook (The Good Place) were previously announced as series regulars. Parnell and Jackson will both reprise their roles from the backdoor pilot, which aired as a May episode of the Emmy-nominated ABC comedy.
Kenya Barris, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and Brian Dobbins executive produce.
Freeform has ordered 13 episodes of the half-hour, single-camera comedy which is set to premiere early 2018 on Freeform and the Freeform App available on connected TV, mobile devices and online.
Chloe x Halle are an R&B duo from Atlanta made up of sisters Chloe, 19, right, and Halle Bailey, 17. Beyoncé signed the teens to her management company, Parkwood Entertainment, in 2015.
