As the new year has begun, Netflix had some good news for its viewers as itsseries “She’s Gotta Have It,” has been renewed for a second season. The show’s creator Spike Lee and DeWanda Wise, who plays Nola Darling in the TV adaptation of Lee’s 1986 indie film, made the announcement via Instagram.
The 10-episode series, which aired during Thanksgiving, is a contemporary update of Spike Lee’s revolutionary debut independent film. She’s Gotta Have It centers on Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time amongst her Friends, her Job and her Three Lovers: The Cultured Model, Greer Childs, The Protective Investment Banker, Jamie Overstreet and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead, Mars Blackmon.
Lee directed the entire series and served as creator and executive producer along with his producer wife Tonya Lewis Lee, who was also the executive produce.
Starring in the series were DeWanda Wise is starring as Nola Darling; Cleo Anthony is Greer Childs; Anthony Ramos is Mars Blackmon; Lyriq Bent is Jamie Overstreet; Margot Bingham is Clorinda Bradford; Chyna Layne is Shemekka Epps; Sydney Morton is Sheryl Overstreet and Ilfenesh Hadera as Opal Gilstrap.
As for the writers, Spike Lee wrote episodes 1 and 10.Radha Blank wrote episodes 2 and 9. Lynn Nottage wrote episode 3. Eisa Davis wrote episode 4. Barry Michael Cooper wrote episodes 5 and 8. Spike’s brother Cinque Lee wrote episode 6 and their sister Joie Lee who wrote episode 7.
