According to Deadline, the second season of Starz’s original series “Power”, which aired on June 6, set a ratings high for the network.

“With 1.43 million viewers, the 9 PM Season 2 debut on Friday Power now ranks as the most-watched Starz original series season debut in the channel’s history. The record was held by the premiere of Spartacus: Vengeance on January 27, 2013, which drew 1.39 million.”

With comparisons to Fox’s Empire, although Power aired first, the show has attracted an audience craving for a drama series featuring African Americans front and center of the camera. During last week’s launch before the episode aired, the cast were and about traveling from New York to Atlanta doing interviews and promotions. Along with the Outlander and Survivor’s Remorse, and now Power, Starz is starting to become a major player in the TV business, not just cable.

Power S2 Premiere - Omari Hardwick, Courtney Kemp Agboh, Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, and Joseph SikoraThe site goes on to state that “the Season 2 launch of Power was up 209% from its Season 1 debut on June 7 last year. The Season 2 opener is also up 32% from the first cycle’s finale August 2.”

“Power” is now an even bigger hit with African-American audiences, as the
season two premiere episode was the #1 show on all of cable television on
Saturday among African-Americans (1.11 million) and #6 for the week of
June 1-7 on a viewership projections basis

‘Power’ stars Omari Hardwick, Naturi Naughton, Lela Loren, Joseph Sikora, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Andy Bean, Sinqua Walls, Adam Huss, Luis Antonio Ramos, La La Anthony, J.R. Ramirez, Debbi Morgan, Shane Johnson, and Enrique Murciano.

From executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and show creator Courtney Kemp Agboh (“The Good Wife”),“Power” returns this summer with a 10-episode second season.

Power 2 2014James “Ghost” St. Patrick is doubling down on his drug business to save his nightclub and dream of a legitimate future. Ghost’s work troubles pale in comparison to juggling his relationship with his wife, Tasha, and his first love Angela, who’s also an Assistant US Attorney investigating his drug organization. Ghost is set further back from his dream by his business partner, Tommy, who loves the drug game, and his former mentor, Kanan, fresh out of jail, and looking for revenge. Season two has Ghost in a race against himself: Can he get out of the drug game alive before Angela discovers who he is?

Naughton plays Tasha St. Patrick, wife, confidant and willing accomplice to James; Lela Loren as Angela Valdes, an old flame of James’s who unexpectedly reenters his life; and Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy Egan, Ghost’s childhood best friend and business partner.
