Actress Storm Reid is in talks to star in sequel 2018 mystery-thriller Searching. Directing the Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 will be Will Merrick and Nick Johnson and is said it will tell a different story than the original, but will share the theme to the original John Cho led film. Natalie Qasabian, Aneesh Chaganty, Sev Ohanian will be producing under Search Party along with Adam Sidman and Timur Bekmambetov. Executive producing is Jo Henriquez with Congyu E co-producing.
Searching follows desperate father, David Kim (Cho), as he searches his daughter’s laptop for clues to her disappearance when the police search proves pointless. Deadline reported that the plot to the second installment has yet to be revealed and that a new set of characters will be involved this time around. It was shared that the new film will have a Screenlife thriller format, playing out on the screens of each characters devices. The film is based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Chaganty and the script was written by Merrick and Johnson.
Searching originally premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was released by Sony Stage 6 Films and Screen Gems later that year. The film received great reviews and made $75 million worldwide at the box office.
Storm Reid made her film debut in Ava DuVernay’s blockbuster A Wrinkle in Time. The actress has also starred in 2019’s Don’t Let Go and 2020’s The Invisible Man. On the television side, Reid stars as Gia on HBO’s hit show Euphoria. She is also set to star in the upcoming Suicide Squad and alongside Kevin Bacon in the film One Way.
