Sylvester Stallone has announced plans to write, produce and direct “Creed 2” starring Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed.
“Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in CREED 2 next year … One more Round ! #creed2 #mgm #fighting #workout #exercise #boxing” stated Stallone on his Instagram account.
Stallone directed four of the previous “Rocky” films including Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV and Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6) along with starring in them.
Stallone takes over from Fruitvale Station and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler who helmed the first “Creed” and will remain onboard as an executive producer. Coogler directed Creed from a screenplay he wrote with Aaron Covington, based on characters from the Rocky series written by Stallone. Black Panther is slated to open on February 2018 and has Atlanta school drama Wrong Answer in development with Jordan to star.
Creed earned over $173 million at the worldwide box office in 2015 and a Best Supporting actor Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination for Stallone.
Stallone has also been teasing the return of Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer who killed Apollo Creed in the ring in “Rocky IV”.
