Tracy Morgan is bringing his brand of comedy to FX.
The 30 Rock comedian has closed a deal to star in comedy pilot, Death Pact, from Rob Long and Tad Safran. The single-camera entry will feature Morgan as a formerly lazy, pot-dealing assistant high school coach, who returns to his hometown as a decorated war hero. He runs across three down-on-their-luck friends and former students and sucks them into his new radical self-help philosophy, which involves harsh consequences for failure.
“Needless to say, anything starring Tracy Morgan could be off-the-charts hilarious and we’re betting this one is,” FX’s Executive VP original programming and development Nick Grad said in a statement announcing the news Thursday. “Rob Long, Tad Safran, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum have delivered a terrific starring vehicle for Tracy. We look forward to casting the other three co-stars and getting started with production. This is going to be fun.”
Pact was co-created by Long (Sullivan & Son, Cheers) and Safran (The Long Weekend), who will write and executive produce alongside EPs Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men) of the Tannenbaum Company. Production on the half-hour, FX Productions pilot will take place this summer in either New York or New Jersey.
Morgan, the touring stand-up whose other credits include Saturday Night Live, Why Stop Now and The Son of No One, as well as Long and the Tannenbaums are repped by CAA; Safran is repped by ICM Partners.
