Netflix has released the trailer for Season 5 of its award-winning hit series “Orange Is the New Black,” which will premiere on June 9, 2017.
The fifth season will have a radically condensed timeframe, taking place in real-time, over just three days. Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee, confirmed the news to E! at the SAG Awards last month, stating, “Season 5 is done over the course of three days: you will watch 13 episodes, and find out what happens in the course of three days. So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready.”
Season 5 will open with a riot sparked by Poussey’s death, which quickly escalates when the inmates gain control of the prison. Once they get a taste of power, chaos erupts in the halls of Litchfield.
Returning cast includes Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Adrienne C. Moore, Jackie Cruz, Laverne Cox, Lea DeLaria, Jessica Pimentel, Dascha Polanco and Natasha Lyonne.
Based on Piper Kerman’s memoir, “Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison” (2010), about her experiences at FCI Danbury, a minimum-security federal prison, “Orange Is the New Black” was renewed for a fifth, sixth, and seventh season a year ago.
