Two clips from screenwriter and Academy Award winner John Ridley‘s directorial debut “Jimi: All Is By My Side,” the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000, has been posted online.
Set to hit theaters in May, the film will also make its U.S. premiere at SXSW, which will run from March 11-16.
Distributed by Open Road Films and XLrator Media, OutKast’s André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this revealing biopic. Covering a year in Hendrix’s life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York’s Cheetah Club to making his mark in London’s music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph, the film presents an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend. “Jimi: All Is By My Side” also features a stand out supporting cast including Hayley Atwell, Imogen Poots, and Ruth Negga.
First shown at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival, “Jimi: All Is By My Side” is produced by Darko Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick (“Bad Words”), Jeff Culotta, and Danny Bramson, Freeman Films’ Brandon Freeman and Anthony Burns, Subotica’s Tristen Orpen Lynch, and Nigel Thomas of Matador Pictures, with Darko’s Edward H. Hamm, Jr., and John Ridley as executive producers.
Ridley won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, which also won the Oscar for Best Picture.
