Saban Films has released the trailer and poster for their sci-fi horror film Cell, starring John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson and Isabelle Fuhrman.
Directed by Tod Williams, the film is based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Stephen King, who adapted the screenplay with revisions by Adam Alleca.
Also included in the film are Stacy Keach, Wilbur Fitzgerald, Owen Teague and E. Roger Mitchell.
Clay Riddell, a New England artist, is a witness to an ugly phenomenon: a mysterious signal broadcast over the global cell phone network turns the majority of his fellow humans into mindless vicious animals. Now he and a few survivors must find and stop ‘the pulse’ and the person controlling it and reunite with his young son before it’s too late.
Fuhrman plays a teenage neighbor of Cusack’s Clay Riddell character who joins him and Jackson’s Tom McCourt character on their journey to safety after a mysterious pulse spreads like a virus through the human population.
Keach will play the headmaster of a prep school where the survivors stop along their way.
“I enjoyed working on ‘Cell’ and love the way it turned out,” said Stephen King. “Kip Williams has made a scary and thoroughly entertaining movie. But you may want to put your cell phone in the freezer after seeing it.”
Cell was fully financed by Benaroya Pictures and produced by Benaroya Pictures and The Genre Company. it will be released on Ultra VOD June 10 and then theatrically and on VOD July 8.
