Rialto Pictures has acquired rights to Idris Elba<\/strong>‘s Directorial Debut, Yardie<\/strong> and will release the film in theaters on March 15.<\/p>\n

Starring Aml Ameen<\/strong>, The film recently had its\u00a0world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n

The cast also includes\u00a0Shantol Jackson, Stephen Graham, Fraser James, Sheldon Shepherd<\/strong>, & Everaldo Cleary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film is the big-screen adaptation of Victor Headley<\/strong>\u2019s 1992 novel which is set in 1980s Hackney, and follows the rise of a young Jamaican in London\u2019s drug-dealing underworld.\u00a0The novel borrows its title from a slang term originally given to occupants of housing projects.<\/p>\n

Set in \u201970s Kingston and \u201980s Hackney, Yardie centres on the life of a young Jamaican man named D (Aml Ameen<\/strong>), who has never fully recovered from the murder, committed during his childhood, of his older brother Jerry Dread (Everaldo Creary<\/strong>). D grows up under the wing of a Kingston Don and music producer named King Fox (Sheldon Shepherd<\/strong>). Fox dispatches him to London, where he reconnects with his childhood sweetheart, Yvonne (Shantol Jackson<\/strong>), and his daughter who he’s not seen since she was a baby. He also hooks up with a soundclash crew, called High Noon. But before he can be convinced to abandon his life of crime and follow \u201cthe righteous path,\u201d he encounters the man who shot his brother 10 years earlier, and embarks on a bloody, explosive quest for retribution \u2014 a quest which brings him into conflict with vicious London gangster Rico (Stephen Graham<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Elba is next up in the Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie<\/strong>, which he created, produced and starred in.<\/p>\n
