The Independent Filmmaker Project<\/strong> (\u201cIFP<\/strong>\u201d), the nation\u2019s oldest and largest U.S.-based non-profit dedicated to supporting the future of independent filmmaking and storytelling, is teaming up with The Blackhouse Foundation<\/strong>, a leading non-profit organization that works to expand opportunities for black multi-platform content creators, to launch the\u00a0IFP-Blackhouse Multicultural Producers Lab<\/strong>, sponsored by HBO Corporate Social Responsibility Department, beginning in January 2019.<\/p>\n

Brickson Diamond<\/strong>, co-founder of Blackhouse, made the announcement last night at The Blackhouse Foundation\u2019s Opening Night Party at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The partnership brings together IFP\u2019s track record of developing creative talent with The Blackhouse Foundation\u2019s success in bringing diversity to festivals like Sundance with increased access to and for exceptional writers, directors, and producers.<\/p>\n

A cohort of six (6) producers of innovative fiction and nonfiction projects (film, television, and digital media) were selected by IFP, Blackhouse, and HBO. These Fellows will participate in this year-long, collaborative program to expand the number of multicultural production companies; to increase their pipeline of content; and to support the sustainability of mid-career independent producers and the scale at which their projects and businesses operate.\u00a0The first cohort of participating producers are all women, signaling all of the partner organizations\u2019 focus on supporting female filmmakers.<\/p>\n

The selected Fellows will take part in a series of intensive programs and workshops throughout the year, both at the \u201cMade in NY\u201d Media Center by IFP in New York and at HBO headquarters in Los Angeles. The program will culminate at IFP\u2019s signature program, IFP Week 2019.<\/p>\n

Following the inaugural\u00a0IFP-Blackhouse Multicultural Producers Lab\u00a0cohort, the initiative will accept open submission for its second year in 2020.<\/p>\n
