BBC America has announced that Season 5 of\u00a0Luther<\/strong>, their award-winning crime drama with Idris Elba reprising his role as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, will air on<\/span> Sunday, June 2 at 8\/7c.<\/p>\n

When the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, DCI John Luther is once more called to immerse himself in the deepest depths of human depravity. While the monstrous and seemingly indiscriminate killings become ever more audacious and public, Luther and new recruit DS Catherine Halliday(Wunmi Mosaku) are confounded by a complex tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an untouchable corruption. But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the true face of evil, a reluctant Luther is forced to confront the unburied demons of his own recent past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect and who to sacrifice. His next move will have devastating consequences for those around him \u2014 and change him forever.\u00a0As the body count rises, and gangster George Cornelius (Patrick Malahide) applies his own pressure, can Luther catch a killer and save his own neck?<\/p>\n

The series also stars Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley<\/strong> and Patrick Malahide<\/strong>. Wunmi Mosaku<\/strong> joins as Luther\u2019s new partner Detective Sgt. Catherine Halliday and Hermione Norris<\/strong> is playing Dr Vivien Lake, a psychiatrist who cares for some of the most vulnerable in society.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuther\u201d started in 2010. The series has grabbed seven Emmy nominations to date. Elba won the Golden Globe in 2012 for lead actor in a miniseries or moviem a Screen Actors Guild award, an NAACP Image Award, a Critics\u2019 Choice Award, and four Emmy nominations.<\/p>\n

BBC Studios and BBC America are co-producing \u201cLuther.\u201d Elba, \u201cLuther\u201d creator Neil Cross,<\/strong>\u00a0Marcus Wilson, Hilary Salmon, and Elizabeth Kilgarriff are exec producers. BBC Worldwide distributes the series.<\/p>\n
