Walt Disney Studios has released a new poster and TV spot for the live-action remake of The Lion King<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Directed by Jon Favreau<\/strong> (The Jungle Book), Disney\u2019s The Lion King opens in theatres July 19, 2019.<\/p>\n

Lions rule the African savanna in The Lion King, which welcomes Donald Glover<\/strong> (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future king Simba, Beyonc\u00e9 Knowles-Carter<\/strong> (Dreamgirls, \u201cLemonade\u201d visual album) as Simba\u2019s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones<\/strong> (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Field of Dreams) as Simba\u2019s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney\u2019s 1994 animated classic.<\/p>\n

Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/strong> (Twelve Years a Slave, Doctor Strange) was called on to portray Simba\u2019s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard<\/strong> (Juanita, Marvel\u2019s Luke Cage) portrays Simba\u2019s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary<\/strong> (Tyler Perry\u2019s The Paynes, Vital Signs) fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can\u2019t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph<\/strong> (Hairspray Live, Broadway\u2019s \u201cThe Lion King\u201d) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.<\/p>\n

Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani<\/strong> (Coriolanus, Captain America: Civil War) was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver<\/strong> (Last WeekTonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa\u2019s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends\u2014Seth Rogen<\/strong> (Sausage Party, Neighbors) lends his comedic chops to na\u00efve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner<\/strong> (Billy on the Street, American Horror Story) joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat Timon.<\/p>\n

While most of the animals in the kingdom respect the king, the hyenas have other plans. Florence Kasumba<\/strong> (Emerald City, Black Panther) portrays Shenzi, Eric Andr\u00e9<\/strong> (The Eric Andr\u00e9 Show, Man Seeking Woman) is Azizi, and Keegan-Michael Key<\/strong> (Predator, Friends from College) plays Kamari.<\/p>\n
