ABC has released the trailer to their newest series mixed-ish, <\/strong>which focuses on Tracee Ellis Ross\u2019 black-ish character, Rainbow Johnson in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

In mixed-ish, Rainbow Johnson recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the \u201880s and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves. Bow\u2019s parents Paul and Alicia decide to move from a hippie commune to the suburbs to better provide for their family. As her parents struggle with the challenges of their new life, Bow and her siblings navigate a mainstream school in which they\u2019re perceived as neither black nor white. This family\u2019s experiences illuminate the challenges of finding one\u2019s own identity when the rest of the world can\u2019t decide where you belong.<\/p>\n

The series stars Arica Himmel<\/strong> as Bow Johnson, Tika Sumpter<\/strong> as Alicia Johnson,\u00a0Christina Anthony<\/strong>\u00a0as Alicia\u2019s sister\/Bow\u2019s aunt Denise.\u00a0Ethan William Childress<\/strong> and Mykal-Michelle Harris<\/strong> will play Bow\u2019s respective siblings Johan and Santamonica Johnson.\u00a0Veep and Good Fight vet Gary Cole<\/strong> is set to co-star as Paul\u2019s father\/Bow\u2019s grandfather Harrison. The role of Rainbow’s father and Alica’s husband, who was initially\u00a0Anders Holm<\/strong> and who appears in the trailer, will be recast.<\/p>\n

The adult versions of her parents Paul and Alicia are currently played on black-ish by Anna Deveare Smith<\/strong> and Beau Bridges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This mark the second extension of the black-ish franchise, following Freeform\u2019s Zoey-centric grown-ish) \u2014 follows a 12-year-old Bow, who is described as emotionally and intellectually brilliant but also clueless, confused and awkward.<\/p>\n

Peter Saji and Kenya Barris are writers and executive producers along with Tracee Ellis Ross, Randall Winston, Artists First (Brian Dobbins), Cinema Gypsy (Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland) and Anthony Anderson. It is also produced by ABC Studios.<\/p>\n
