With Craig Brewer directing the film,\u00a0<strong>Eddie Murphy. Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones<\/strong>, and <strong>Paul Bates<\/strong> are also reprising their roles from the 1988 original film with <strong>Wesley Snipes, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Rick Ross<\/strong> and <strong>KiKi Layne<\/strong> taking on new characters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-135986\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 200 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Coming-To-America-poster-2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The original starred Murphy as charming Prince Akeem of Zamunda who travelled to New York City to escape an arranged marriage, only to fall in love. Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, and John Amos co-starred.\u00a0Amos\u2019 Cleo is also the father of Akeem\u2019s love interest, Lisa McDowell, who was played by Shari Headley. No word yet on if Headley is returning.<\/p>\n<p>In the new film\u00a0follows former Prince Akeem who is set to become King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America \u2013 a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father\u2019s dying wish to groom this son as the crowned prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-136054\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 205'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/John-Amos-in-Coming-To-America-photo-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the original movie, John Amos famously portrays McDowell&#8217;s manager Cleo McDowell. His restaurant brand is a parody of McDonald&#8217;s, complete with a similar logo, store design, and employee uniforms. &#8220;They&#8217;re McDonald&#8217;s &#8211; I&#8217;m McDowell&#8217;s,&#8221; Amos memorably says as Cleo in the movie. He adds: &#8220;They got the golden arches; we got the golden arcs.&#8221; After Cleo gives the prince a job at McDowell&#8217;s, Akeem meets his daughter and chooses her to be his royal bride.
