Cherry&#8217;s animated short film<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Hair Love, <\/strong>which is currently\u00a0playing ahead of Sony Pictures Animation and Rovio Animation\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Angry Birds Movie 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Co-directed by Cherry and <strong>Everett Downing<\/strong>, Hair Love raised $300,000 on Kickstarter back in 2017. That\u2019s the most any short film, animated or not, has ever achieved on the funding platform.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-full wp-image-130868\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 219 230'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Hair-Love.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"219\" height=\"230\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hair Love, is a 6 minute animated short film that centers around the relationship between an African-American father, Stephen, his daughter, Zuri and her hair. Despite having long locks, Stephen has been used to his wife doing his daughter&#8217;s hair, so when she is unavailable right before a big event, Stephen will have to figure it out on his own. This sounds simple enough, but we soon come to find that Zuri&#8217;s hair has a mind of its own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-136300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 169'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/hair-love-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt was important to get this story out there and we are so grateful to Sony Pictures Animation for their generous support in helping us make that happen,\u201d<\/strong> Cherry himself noted of the deal and roll-out plan. <strong>\u201cThey have championed it from its early stages and we cannot wait to share the project with the world.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, serif;\">The film was produced by\u00a0<strong>Karen Rupert Toliver<\/strong> (EVP, Creative for Sony Pictures Animation), <strong>Stacey Newton, Monica A.
