The new Boondocks will launch in fall 2020 with a 50-minute special. All 55 episodes of the original The Boondocks series will also be available on WarnerMedia direct-to-consumer platform at launch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-137459\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 200 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/The-Boondocks-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Boondocks revival was taken out to the marketplace in late spring and was confirmed by Sony Pictures Animation at the Annecy festival in June. HBO Max immediately emerged as the most likely home for the new series because of WarnerMedia\u2019s history with the franchise. The original Boondocks animated series, based on the comic strip created by McGruder, aired on the company\u2019s Adult Swim, a large part of whose programming will be available on HBO Max. The series earned McGruder a Peabody Award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Boondocks was a revolutionary series that sparked conversations on hot button issues and brought dark subjects into the light with episodes like \u2018The Trial of Robert Kelly\u2019, \u2018The Fundraiser\u2019 and \u2018The Story of Gangstalicious\u2019,\u201d<\/strong> said Kevin Reilly, Chief Content Officer, HBO Max and President, TBS, TNT and truTV. <strong>\u201cAaron is a gifted visionary whose unique style of storytelling is a welcome voice and we are elated The Freemans are making their thugnificent comeback on HBO Max.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-137460\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 200'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HBO-Max-logo-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new Boondocks follows the adventures of self-proclaimed \u201cCivil Rights Legend\u201d Robert \u201cGranddad\u201d Freeman, and his two rambunctious grandsons Huey and Riley. The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.<\/p>\n<p>McGruder returns as showrunner and will serve as executive producer along with Norm Aladjem for Mainstay Entertainment as well as Seung Kim and Meghann Collins Robertson.
