At last night\u2019s\u00a0Urbanworld Film Festival<\/strong>, Blackfilm.com\u2019s Nasser Metcalfe had the opportunity to speak with Mixed-ish star Tika Sumpter.<\/b><\/p>\n The series is set to debut on September 24.<\/p>\n In Mixed-ish, Rainbow Johnson recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the \u201880s and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves. Bow\u2019s parents Paul and Alicia decide to move from a hippie commune to the suburbs to better provide for their family. As her parents struggle with the challenges of their new life, Bow and her siblings navigate a mainstream school in which they\u2019re perceived as neither black nor white. This family\u2019s experiences illuminate the challenges of finding one\u2019s own identity when the rest of the world can\u2019t decide where you belong.<\/p>\n Mixed-ish is co-created and co-written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and Peter Saji, whom will both served as executive produced. The series stars Arica Himmell<\/strong> as the young Bow Johnson, Tika Sumpter<\/strong> (Gossip Girl, The Haves and the Have Nots) as Alicia, Gary Cole<\/strong> (The Good Fight, Veep) as Harrison Jackson III, Christina Anthony<\/strong> as Denise, Mykal-Michelle Harris<\/strong> as Santamonica, Ethan Chidress<\/strong> as Johan and Anders Holm (Workaholics, The Mindy Project). Ellis Ross will also be part of the series as its\u2019 narrator and executive producer.<\/p>\n
