Warner Bros. has released two posters to its inspiring drama \u201cJust Mercy,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0directed by\u00a0Destin Daniel Cretton <\/strong>and\u00a0based on the award-winning nonfiction bestseller by Bryan Stevenson. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The film had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and then\u00a0have an Oscar-qualifying December 25 limited release before going wide January 10, 2020.<\/p>\n

The film stars Michael B. Jordan,<\/strong>\u00a0and Oscar winners Jamie Foxx<\/strong>\u00a0and Brie Larson.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A powerful and thought-provoking true story, \u201cJust Mercy\u201d follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan might have had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds\u2014and the system\u2014stacked against them.<\/p>\n

The main cast also includes O\u2019Shea Jackson Jr.<\/strong> (\u201cStraight Outta Compton\u201d) as Anthony Ray Hinton, another wrongly convicted death row inmate whose cause is taken up by Bryan; Rob Morgan<\/strong> (\u201cMudbound\u201d) as Herbert Richardson, who also sits on death row awaiting his fate; and Tim Blake Nelson<\/strong> (\u201cWormwood\u201d) as Ralph Myers, whose pivotal testimony against Walter McMillian is called into question.<\/p>\n

Cretton is helming the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Andrew Lanham<\/strong> (\u201cThe Glass Castle\u201d), based on Stevenson\u2019s book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption<\/strong>. Published in 2014 by Spiegel & Grau, the book has spent 118 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers List, and counting, and was named one of the year\u2019s best books by a number of top publications, including TIME Magazine. For the book, Stevenson also won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence, an NAACP Image Award, and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Nonfiction.<\/p>\n

The film is being produced by two-time Oscar nominee Gil Netter<\/strong> (\u201cLife of Pi,\u201d \u201cThe Blind Side\u201d) and Asher Goldstein<\/strong> (\u201cShort Term 12\u201d), with Mike Drake, Michael B. Jordan, Bryan Stevenson, Gabriel Hammond, Daniel Hammond<\/strong> and Niija Kuykendall<\/strong> serving as executive producers.<\/p>\n

The creative team working with Cretton behind the scenes includes director of photography Brett Pawlak<\/strong>, production designer Sharon Seymour, editor Nat Sanders and composer Joel P. West, all of whom previously collaborated with the director on \u201cThe Glass Castle.\u201d They are joined by costume designer Francine Jamison-Tanchuck (\u201cDetroit,\u201d \u201cRoman J. Israel, Esq.\u201d).<\/p>\n
