According to Deadline<\/a>, CBS All Access has officially renewed its upcoming Star Trek<\/strong> spin-off series Star Trek: Picard\u00a0<\/strong>for a 10-episode second season and will reportedly have a budget of more than $20.4 million. The renewal comes ahead of the series\u2019 highly-anticipated debut next month which will feature the return of Sir Patrick Stewart as the iconic titular character.<\/p>\n

Picard<\/strong> will have its U.S. debut on January 23, 2020, on CBS All Access and will be available in more than 200 countries and territories on January 24, 2020, on Amazon Prime Video<\/p>\n

Star Trek: Picard will tell the next story of Picard\u2019s life, taking place after Star Trek: Next Generation. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman revealed in March that it will be \u201ca very different show from Discovery.\u201d He also mentioned that the series will be a \u201cvery thoughtful, psychological portrait in a lot of ways\u2026 Things have changed for [Picard] and changed him in some ways, and yet he is so deeply and fundamentally still Picard.\u201d<\/p>\n

The series will also see the return of Star Trek alums including Brent Spiner<\/strong> as Data, Jonathan Del Arco<\/strong> as Hugh the Borg, and Star Trek: Voyager\u2018s Jeri Ryan<\/strong> as Seven of Nine along with Marina Sirtis<\/strong> as Commander Deanna Troi and Jonathan Frakes<\/strong> as Riker.<\/p>\n

Picard will also be featuring Santiago Cabrera<\/strong> (Big Little Lies), Michelle Hurd<\/strong> (Blindspot), Evan Evagora<\/strong> (Fantasy Island), Alison Pill<\/strong> (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway<\/strong> (Mr. Mercedes, Penny Dreadful), and Isa Briones<\/strong> (American Crime Story: Versace).<\/p>\n

Star Trek: Discovery co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman will oversee development on the new show, which is not a Star Trek: The Next Generation reboot but rather a continuation of Picard\u2019s story. Michael Chabon<\/strong> will serve as showrunner.<\/p>\n

Kurtzman will executive produce the new series alongside newly-appointed Star Trek: Discovery executive producer James Duff, former Discovery executive producer Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower), Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2) and Star Trek: Voyager and Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer. Also executive producing are Heather Kadin of Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment President Eugene \u201cRod\u201d Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and Roddenberry Entertainment COO Trevor Roth.<\/p>\n
