Starring Academy Award winner <strong>Forest Whitaker<\/strong> as Bumpy Johnson, Season 2 will begin its production later this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c\u2018Godfather of Harlem\u2019 season one was a remarkable success, tripling previous viewership numbers for the network and earning acclaim from both critics and viewers alike,\u201d<\/strong> President of Epix, Michael Wright said in a statement (via The Wrap). <strong>\u201cWe couldn\u2019t wait to reunite with Chris, Paul, Forest and the team at ABC Signature to continue telling this compelling and extremely relevant story.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-130935\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 200 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Godfather-of-Harlem-Forest-Whitaker-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Godfather for Harlem tells the story of crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned after 10 years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy takes on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X \u2014 catching his political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart. The series is described as a collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" Johnson, <strong>Nigel Thatch<\/strong> as Malcolm X, <strong>Giancarlo Esposito<\/strong> as Adam Clayton Powell and <strong>Rafi Gavron<\/strong> as Ernie Nunzi.<\/p>\n<p>Whitaker will executive produce alongside his Significant Productions banner topper <strong>Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson<\/strong> and <strong>Markuann Smith<\/strong> along with <strong>Chris Brancato<\/strong> (Narcos) and <strong>Paul Eckstein<\/strong>, also serving as writers for the ABC Signature Studios project.<\/p>\n<p>Godfather of Harlem serves as Whitaker\u2019s first series regular role since he
