On those films, <strong>Rami Malek<\/strong> (Freddie Mercury), <strong>Gary Oldman<\/strong> (Winston Churchill), and <strong>Eddie Redmayne<\/strong> (Stephen Hawkins) won lead actor Oscars three years straight, and <strong>Jonathan Pryce<\/strong> and <strong>Anthony Hopkins<\/strong> were just both nominated for Pope Francis and Pope Benedict, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Focusing on a female icon will be a new one for him.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-143659\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 200'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Whitney-Pat-Houston-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Whitney Houston film will be produced by <strong>Pat Houston<\/strong> on behalf of the Houston Estate, Davis, <strong>Larry Mestel<\/strong> on behalf of Primary Wave Music, <strong>Denis O\u2019Sullivan<\/strong>, and McCarten through his Muse of Fire Productions banner. Primary Wave Music is a partner of the Whitney Houston estate. The film will benefit from the use of Houston\u2019s many hit songs.<\/p>\n<p>The producers describe their vision of the film as a \u201cjoyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&amp;B pop vocalist of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-143660\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 237 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Whitney-Houston-5-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Houston is the most awarded female music artist of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide. With her first studio album in 1985 and for more than 25 years that followed, her music became the soundtrack for multiple generations. Her hit songs included Saving All My Love for You, How Will I Know, Greatest Love of All, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Didn\u2019t We Almost Have it All, So Emotional, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, I\u2019m Your Baby Tonight and Million Dollar Bill, among many others. The six songs Houston recorded for her 1992 screen turn with Kevin Costner propelled The Bodyguard soundtrack to win multiple Grammy Awards including Album of the Year, and a Record of the Year award for the Dolly Parton-penned single I Will Always Love You. She later did soundtracks for other motion pictures, including Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher\u2019s Wife, the latter which went on to become the best-selling gospel album in history.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a few films centering on the life of Houston, in 2015 Angela Basset directed Yaya DaCosta in <strong>Whitney<\/strong> for Lifetime. Nick Broomfield directed the 2017 documentary <strong>Whitney: Can I Be Me<\/strong> for Showtime. Kevin Macdonald directed the 2018 documentary <strong>Whitney<\/strong> that premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and was released internationally in theaters that summer. Gabrielle Dennis played Houston in BET&#8217;s <strong>The Bobby Brown Story<\/strong>\u00a0in 2018 and Demetria McKinney played the role in the TV One film <strong>Bobbi
