Netflix has released the trailer to\u00a0Gina Prince-Bythewood<\/strong>‘s forthcoming action fantasy film adaptation of The Old Guard, <\/strong>which will be released on July 10. Oscar winner Charlize Theron<\/strong>\u00a0stars as Andromache of Scythia, the leader of a small group of immortal soldiers. Some of the main cast include\u00a0KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli<\/strong>,\u00a0and Marwan Kenzari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Other cast members include Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/strong>, Harry Melling<\/strong>\u00a0and Veronica Ngo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. Gina Prince-Bythewood <\/strong>is directing the adaptation of author Greg Rucka\u2019s comic book <\/strong>for Skydance Media.\u00a0The screenplay adaptation comes from Rucka and Prince-Bythewood.<\/p>\n

The Old Guard\u201d is the nickname for the oldest active-duty regiment in the U.S. Army, but the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment has nothing on the team of immortal soldiers at the center of The Old Guard<\/em>. The group\u2019s leader, Andy (short for Andronika the Scythian), has been alive since ancient Greece; described as very, very old \u2014 5,000 years old and an Amazon from the Herodotus age.<\/p>\n

Theron plays Andy, a 5,000-year-old Amazon from the Herodotus age of ancient Greece, who leads the warriors. They include latest recruit Nile, a U.S. Marine, played by KiKi Layne \u2014 who broke through in Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins\u2019 film If Beale Street Could Talk.<\/p>\n

Other ancient soldiers in the film include Napoleonic soldier Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), and two enemies from the Crusades (Luca Marinelli & Marwan Kenzari) who are now lovers.<\/p>\n

Ejiofor\u2019s character Copley is an ex-CIA operative who hires the fighters for a rescue mission. He\u2019s not immortal.<\/p>\n

Nor is sociopathic businessman Steve Merrick, to be played by Harry Melling, who also joined the production yesterday, along with Veronica Ngo, who played a fighter pilot in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She will play a character called Quynh.<\/p>\n
