This will be Duvernay\u2019s first time writing, directing and producing a feature film for Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duvernay definitely isn&#8217;t new to the streaming service, with this being her third project following <em>13th<\/em> and <em>When They See Us<\/em>. This film marks her second time working with Netflix executive Tendo Nagenda, whom she collaborated with on 2018\u2019s sci-fi adventure film \u201cA Wrinkle In Time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pulitzer Prize winning novel is told in multiple narratives in the film, describing racism in America in terms of a caste system. It also juxtaposes the experiences of people of color in America to caste systems in India and Nazi Germany. The project is being produced by Duvernay\u2019s own Array Filmworks along with Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duvernay is adding this adaptation to her long list of films dedicated to highlighting social injustices, especially those occurring in the black community. The director holds BAFTA, Emmy, and Peabody awards and is the first African American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award.
