The 2019 book will be developed into a series under Union\u2019s production company\u2019s first look production deal with Sony Pictures Television. Union has pegged writer and producer Erika L. Johnson to write the series who has already lent her talents to the likes of <em>Shades of Blue<\/em> and <em>Queen Sugar<\/em>. The two have worked together before on BET\u2019s <em>Being Mary Jane.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story is centered on the Butler Family, a well respected staple in a small Michigan town where they reside. The eldest of three sisters has served as the substitute matriarch for her family, and has now been arrested for a white collar crime she committed with her husband, defaming the family\u2019s name in the town. The book explores the relationships between mothers and daughters, identity and family, and how the relationships that sustain you can also be the ones that consume you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the show, Union states, \u201cOne of my goals with starting my own production company was to be able to create work for people I know and respect, Erika is one of those creatives. Besides [the] fact that she\u2019s beyond professional, she\u2019s extraordinarily talented. We both really responded to a lot of the themes that this book uncovers mainly because they aren\u2019t so openly discussed within black culture.
