WORLD Channel<\/strong> will join AMERICAN EXPERIENCE<\/strong> for a virtual conversation tonight, October 21, 2020, at 6:00 pm ET with filmmaker Stanley Nelson<\/strong> where he will talk about three of his Civil Rights films<\/strong>:\u00a0The Murder of Emmett Till<\/em><\/a>, Freedom Riders<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0Freedom Summer<\/em><\/a>. The event will be led by AMERICAN EXPERIENCE Executive Producer Cameo George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click here<\/a><\/strong> to join this free event for a discussion on how these stories shaped and advanced the civil rights movement, how racial tensions are still playing out today and how public media can help elevate filmmakers of color in telling diverse stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, beginning in October 2020, WORLD Channel, in partnership with PBS, will\u00a0broadcast a series of documentaries that examine the civil rights movement in America,\u00a0reconciling the history that led to the nation\u2019s current racial reckoning.\u00a0From films such as AMERICAN EXPERIENCE\u2019s\u00a0The Murder of Emmett Till<\/em>\u00a0and AMERICAN MASTERS\u2019\u00a0Miles Davis: The Birth of Cool\u00a0<\/em>to\u00a0Driving While Black,\u00a0<\/em>the films chronicle the history of Black Americans as well as the cultural and political forces which have shaped today\u2019s world.\u00a0 The films also will be available for streaming at\u00a0worldchannel.org<\/a>. Race in America<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0films will air nationwide on Saturday nights at 8 pm ET\/ 9 pm PT from October through March 2021. \u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0AMERICAN EXPERIENCE:\u00a0\u00a0The Murder of Emmett Till<\/em><\/strong> – First aired in January 2003,\u00a0The Murder of Emmett Till\u00a0<\/em>takes viewers back 65 years to August 1955, when a Black 14-year-old\u00a0whistled at a white woman in a grocery store in Money, Mississippi.\u00a0Emmett Till, a teen from Chicago, didn’t understand that he had broken the unwritten laws of the Jim Crow South until three days later, when two white men dragged him from his bed in the dead of night, beat him brutally and then shot him in the head. The murder and the trial horrified the nation and the world and was a spark that helped mobilize the Civil Rights movement.\u00a0Streaming now at\u00a0<\/em>worldchannel.org<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0AMERICAN EXPERIENCE:\u00a0\u00a0Freedom Riders<\/em><\/strong> – From May 2011,\u00a0Freedom Riders<\/em>\u00a0is the powerful, harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. From May until November 1961, more than 400\u00a0Black and white Americans risked their lives for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. Deliberately violating Jim Crow laws in order to test and challenge a segregated interstate travel system, the Freedom Riders met with bitter racism and mob violence along the way, sorely testing their belief in nonviolent activism.\u00a0Streaming now at\u00a0<\/em>worldchannel.org<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
