In a full length interview, Deborah Ayorinde discusses her monumental role and how she was able to cope with the drama associated with filming &#8220;Them&#8221; with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bossip.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BOSSIP <\/a><\/em>Magazine&#8217;s Jane\u00e9 Bolden. <span style=\"color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Deborah Ayorinde discusses her monumental role in &#8220;Them&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div id=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-counter-1\" class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper \" style=\"width:662px;\" data-g1-fluid-width=\"662\" data-g1-fluid-height=\"372\">\n\t       <div class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-inner\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.19335347432%;\">\n\t       <div class=\"mace-youtube\" data-mace-video=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WL3Jz8fDgFI?showinfo=0&#038;rel=1&#038;ytp-pause-overlay=1&#038;autoplay=1&#038;enablejsapi=1\" data-mace-video-thumb=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/WL3Jz8fDgFI\/hqdefault.jpg\"><div class=\"mace-play-button\"><\/div><\/div>\n\t       <\/div>\n\t       <\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI had to get therapy afterward and during the process, because to be honest with you it was the most fulfilling but also most taxing role I\u2019ve ever done,\u201d Ayorinde told BOSSIP. \u201cSo I had to take care of my heart and take care of my spirit, you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The film reveals the horrors of racism in multiple contexts, putting Lucky and her family through a nightmarish sequence of back to back events that will push the sanity of any human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cFor me, I feel like yes its set in the 1950\u2019s but so much has changed but so much hasn\u2019t,\u201d Ayorinde said of the series. \u201cI felt like it was important that I played this role as honestly and authentically as possible because I wanted anyone who has experienced being \u201cThem,\u201d being other, anyone who has experienced racism, sexism, anyone who has experienced anything remotely close to what the Emorys have experienced to feel seen and I feel heard. So I felt like for me, if it meant me going through this process and putting myself on the line for that to happen then it was worth it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Ayorinde said one of the benefits of the job was her on-camera family, comprised of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2016\/03\/ashley-thomas-joins-corey-hawkins-anna-diop-on-24-legacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ashley Thomas <\/a>who plays her husband Henry Emory and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2019\/03\/exclusive-catching-up-with-us-breakout-star-shahadi-wright-joseph\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shahadi Wright Joseph <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2021\/03\/teaser-trailer-for-terror-anthology-series-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Melody Hurd<\/a> who play her daughters Gracie and Ruby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThat was very easy,\u201d Ayorinde told BOSSIP of bonding with her co-stars. \u201cI met with Ashley a little bit before we started filming and we had brunch and we literally talked for hours about everything. The show was like, we only talked about that for a second, we talked about our lives, our upbringings and we became fast friends. The kids, it\u2019s my second time working with Melody because I worked with her on \u201cFatherhood,\u201d with Shahadi it was my first time, but those kids, they\u2019re just so loving and light and they actually helped me through the process than I helped them.
