The new Neo-Western film from lauded South African writer\/director\u00a0Jenna Bass<\/a>\u00a0(Love The One You Love, High Fantasy<\/em>), Flatland<\/em>, is set to premier in the UK courtesy of\u00a0Bohemia Media on August 17 on the\u00a0Bohemia Euphoria followed by a digital release on August 23. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Flatland<\/em>, Bass brings a clever contemporary spin to the Western<\/a> genre in her new feature which follows three women as their lives collide. Set against the harsh and bleakly beautiful scenery of South Africa, the film takes the classically male-dominated western genre and turns it on its head, exploring the delicate issues of gender politics and consent through a female lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Flatland, Natalie (Nicole Fortuin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013\u00a0Dead In The Water, Rage<\/em>) is suffering from anxiety and is already apprehensive about her impending nuptials, but when her wedding night ends in violence she flees the scene, her husband and her small rural town in the desolate Karoo region. Reuniting with her best friend, the heavily pregnant Poppie (Izel Bezuidenhout<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Ring Of Beasts<\/em>), the two women escape together on horseback across the endless winter landscape.But they’re not out of the woods yet, as hot on their trail is lonely policewoman Beauty Cuba (Faith Baloyi<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Tried To, Blowing In The Wind<\/em>) who is intent on proving the innocence of her long-lost ex-fianc\u00e9,\u00a0the man who has been framed for Natalie’s crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flatland<\/em>\u00a0is a breathtakingly original journey of three extraordinary women on their difficult path to freedom.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jenna Bass is a South African writer, filmmaker and former magician. Her award winning films include the short, The Tunnel<\/em> (2010), and the collaboratively-created features Love the One You Love<\/em> (2014) and High Fantasy<\/em> (2017), which have screened around the world, including at the Sundance, Berlinale and Toronto Film Festivals. Together with, Wanuri Ka- hiu, Jenna co-wrote the coming-of-age romance, Rafiki<\/em>, which premiered in Cannes Un Certain Regard in 2018.
