The pilot order was announced during Showtime\u2019s virtual\u00a0TCA\u00a0presentation Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 247 364'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-24-at-3.24.03-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-155347\" width=\"247\" height=\"364\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Wood<\/em>\u00a0is an honest look at friendship and dating from the perspective of three young Black males born and raised in the gentrifying L.A. suburb of Inglewood, fondly referred to by locals as the City Of Champions. The trio\u2019s struggles to balance fatherhood, ambition and loyalty force them to question if they are growing apart \u2026 or closer together. With a knowing nod back to the characters of the 1999 film on which it is based, this romantic comedy showcases the humor and heart of young Black men and women trying to navigate life, love and likes on the \u2019Gram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 229 316'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Rick_Famuyiwa_by_Gage_Skidmore-746x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-155345\" width=\"229\" height=\"316\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Wood<\/em>&nbsp;is personal for Famuyiwa, who was raised in Inglewood. In addition to directing the feature film version of&nbsp;<em>The Wood,<\/em>&nbsp;Famuyiwa directed HBO\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Confirmation&nbsp;<\/em>and wrote the screenplay for 2007\u2019s<em>&nbsp;Talk To Me,<\/em>&nbsp;earning NAACP Image Awards for both. In addition, Famuyiwa won the African-American Film Critics Association award for Best Screenplay for<em>&nbsp;Dope<\/em>, which he also directed. His other film projects as both writer and director include&nbsp;<em>Our Family Wedding<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Brown Sugar.<\/em>&nbsp;For television, Famuyiwa shared a WGA Award nomination for<em>&nbsp;The Mandalorian.<\/em>&nbsp;Famuyiwa directed the pilot episode of&nbsp;<em>The Chi,<\/em>&nbsp;on which he has served as an executive producer since its premiere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 226 303'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Justin-Hillian.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-155346\" width=\"226\" height=\"303\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hillian has served as showrunner on<em>\u00a0The Chi<\/em>\u00a0since the beginning of the third season.
