Best known for his role as Omar Little in “The Wire” the NY Post<\/a> was first to announce that actor Michael K. Williams has passed away at 54. His untimely death comes at the heels of a series of phenomenal roles; he recently portrayed Montrose Freeman in the breakout HBO original “Lovecraft Country”, which scored him an Emmy nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Williams delivered an incredible performance in tribute to the late Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons at the BET Awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “Boardwalk Empire” star was recently added to the cast of the as-yet-to-be-titled George Foreman biopic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News of his passing has rocked social media, with his peers and friends offering kind words about what kind of man he was. Wendell Pierce, who played Bunk in “The Wire” illustrated the beauty of their relationship in a series of tweets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael K. Williams broke onto the scene with his stellar performance as Omar Little on HBO\u2019s\u00a0The Wire<\/em>. He went on to play an equally impressive character as Albert \u201cChalky\u201d White on\u00a0Boardwalk Empire.\u00a0<\/em>Williams has also starred in\u00a02015\u2019s Bessie (2015), 2016\u2019s The Night Of , When They See Us,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Lovecraft Country.<\/em> Williams can also be seen alongside Letitia Wright in the upcoming Bron Studios\u2019\u00a0feature\u00a0Surrounded<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Williams recently announced that he joined the talented cast of the George Foreman biopic that includes; Khris Davis (Detroit, Judas and the Black Messiah, Space Jam: A New Legacy<\/em>) and Sullivan Jones (The Surrogate<\/em>).\u00a0Davis will play Muhammad Ali.
