Lopez, has recently been named as the president of Macro Film Studios. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/news\/james-f-lopez-macro-film-studios-president-1235058475\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that Macro CEO &#8211; Charles D. King tapped Lopez for the position. Lopez has served as president for Will Packer&#8217;s production house for the past three years, producing box office hits like <em>Girls Trip<\/em> and <em>Night School<\/em>. In his new role, Lopez will head all of the studios projects in development, production and distribution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cJames Lopez is an exceptional producer and leader,\u201d King said in an announcement of Lopez&#8217;s hire. \u201cI respect him immensely. I trust his creative instincts and his understanding of the culture and his connection to artists are unparalleled. As Macro is at an exciting inflection point of expansion, I am thrilled to have him by my side as partner to lead the growth of our film business.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Lopez joins new Macro hires, Poppy Hanks, who was appointed as EVP and, Greta Fuentes, who was tapped as VP. All have onboarded the company to assist in their mission to tell diverse stories on a global scale, which is made obvious through events Macro spearheads like its annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.staymacro.com\/digital-studio\/the-hbcu-film-pitch-competition-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HBCU Summit<\/a> which brings inspiration and education to HBCU students on the road to their Hollywood dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cMaking the decision of setting up my own shingle or joining an existing organization was a difficult one to make,\u201d he said. \u201cCharles and I are aligned in our vision which made this decision very easy the more we talked. Having the opportunity not only to lead the motion picture group but to build other business alongside was a challenge and opportunity that I am very excited about. I look forward to breaking new ground and building a legacy alongside Charles, Poppy, Greta and the entire team at Macro.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>During his time at Will Packer Productions, Lopez secured <em>What Men Want<\/em>, <em>Breaking In<\/em>, <em>Little <\/em>and <em>The Photograph<\/em> under his production belt. Upcoming, Lopez is producing the Idris Elba led action-thriller <em>Beast<\/em>, set for 2022. Outside of <em>Girls Trip<\/em> and <em>Night School<\/em>, which the executive served as an EP, Lopez also headed <em>Almost Christmas<\/em> and the recent thriller <em>Jacob&#8217;s Ladder<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macro Film Studios has been pushing out quality content since its 2016&#8217;s Denzel Washington and Viola Davis starring <em>Fences<\/em>. Since then the studio has pumped out the 2017&#8217;s <em>Mudbound<\/em> starring Mary J. Blige, 2018&#8217;s <em>Sorry To Bother You<\/em> starring Tessa Thompson and Lakeith Stanfield, and 2020&#8217;s Oscar winning <em>Judas and the Black Messiah<\/em> starring Daniel Kaluuya &#8211; for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
