Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp have already been announced as cast members for the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Idol<\/em>, set against the backdrop of the music industry, centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol. Amy Seimetz (<em>The Girlfriend Experience, Atlanta, She Dies Tomorrow, Sun Don&#8217;t Shine<\/em>) is set to direct all six episodes and will also serve as an executive producer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;When the multi-talented Abel &#8216;The Weeknd&#8217; Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us THE IDOL, it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before.&#8221; says Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming.\u00a0&#8220;Shortly after, the brilliant duo of Joe Epstein and Amy Seimetz joined forces with the rest of the team, and this dream became a reality.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Other announced cast members include; Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Melanie Liburd (<em>Power Book II: Ghost<\/em>), Tunde Adebimpe (<em>Spider-Man: Homecoming<\/em>), Steve Zissis (<em>Togetherness<\/em>),\u00a0Troye Sivan\u00a0(<em>Boy Erased<\/em>), Elizabeth Berkley Lauren (<em>Showgirls<\/em>), Nico Hiraga (<em>Booksmart<\/em>), and Anne Heche (<em>Six Days Seven Nights<\/em>).
