The Blackhouse Foundation,\u00a0will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary by joining the virtual lineup of the\u00a02022 Sundance<\/a> Film Festival\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Sundance Digital Main St. The organization will bringing the culture to independent film and content through three days of curated programming for the festival, from January 21 – January 23.\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> broke the news today. Additionally,\u00a0The Blackhouse Foundation\u00a0 welcomes\u00a0Meta\u00a0back as Presenting Sponsor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the festival features 35 black films across all categories out of 82 programmed films.\u00a0Regarding the presence of\u00a0The Blackhouse Foundation\u00a0at the\u00a02022 Sundance Film Festival, Executive Director\u00a0Jenean Glover\u00a0commented: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are privileged to have a unique partnership with our returning sponsor\u00a0Meta<\/strong>. Together, we are excited to host three exciting virtual activations. We are consciously inclusive in the delivery of transformative content to our audience of diverse creatives and digital festival-goers. As we pivot to a digital festival for the second year in a row, we are excited to scale our audience in much the same way Blackhouse and Meta increased our impact on our student filmmaker fellows tenfold in 2021.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In advance of the festival,\u00a0The Blackhouse Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0will unveil a dynamic schedule of virtual activations, discussions, events, and community gatherings. Virtual festival goers can expect surprise guests and full cultural immersion.\u00a0Included among the events hosted by\u00a0The Blackhouse Foundation\u00a0<\/strong>is the return of\u00a0The Blackhouse Portrait Studio,\u00a0<\/strong>during which illustrious photographer\u00a0Erik Umphery\u00a0<\/strong>will return to capture the essence of\u00a0Blackhouse\u00a0<\/strong>via unique, invitation-only, one-on-one sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meta\u00a0<\/strong>returns for their third year as Presenting Sponsor with an expansion of their\u00a0SEEN\u00a0<\/strong>program, an activation providing continuous support for Black filmmakers at every stage in their career, along with We The Culture for Black Creators and Instagram\u2019s Share Black Stories programs. The 2022 Sundance Film Festival marks Meta\u2019s fifth year of partnership with\u00a0The Blackhouse Foundation.\u00a0<\/strong>In addition to highlighting the best Black films and directors of the festival, the partnership facilitates Blackhouse\u2019s transition to the virtual world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featuring filmmakers JaSaun Buckner and Kaelo Iyizoba from Meta\u2019s SEEN Black Filmmakers Program, moderated by Blackhouse Executive Director Jenean Glover, and includes Blackhouse co-founder Brickson Diamond and Meta\u2019s Head of Entertainment Creative Shop, Jen Barrett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meta\u2019s Black Creator program, led by Michelle Mitchell (Meta, Media Partnerships) will engage in a candid conversation with\u00a0Ms. Tina Knowles-Lawson\u00a0\u2013\u2013 star of the Facebook Watch show, \u201cTalks with Mama Tina\u201d and co-founder of the WACO Theater Center, along with impressive creators from its inaugural year. Together, this group of creatives will discuss their journeys and the role We The Culture has played along the way.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A vision byAlexander-Julian (AJ) Gibbson\u00a0(Creative Director) and Shakeil Greeley<\/a>\u00a0(Brand and Editorial Director); panel moderated by Sarissa Thrower (Instagram Comms). This project was ideated as an audit of the American Dream, in the form of a series of photo essays and video interviews with immigrant families of color. The United States is famously known as a \u2018land of immigrants,\u2019 and this project explores and celebrates the ways in which immigrants are different and how their experiences vary, intersect, and deviate, all within the spectrum of the American experience. These families are shot in their homes and communities, by photographers of the same descent, and dressed in clothes designed by members of those same immigrant groups. It\u2019s imperative to find ways to really see one another, to look deeply and embrace the kaleidoscopic experience of what it means to be an immigrant.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
