{"id":160151,"date":"2022-02-25T12:37:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T17:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/?p=160151"},"modified":"2022-02-25T13:17:37","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T18:17:37","slug":"neon-to-produce-seeking-mavis-beacon-from-jazmin-jones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/neon-to-produce-seeking-mavis-beacon-from-jazmin-jones\/","title":{"rendered":"Neon To Produce &#8216;Seeking Mavis Beacon&#8217; From Jazmin Jones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NEON recently announced they have signed on to produce the documentary&nbsp;<em>Seeking Mavis Beacon<\/em>, directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jazminjones.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jazmin Jones<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mavis Beacon was the most influential Black woman in technology right up until the day she vanished.&nbsp;<em>Seeking Mavis Beacon<\/em>&nbsp;will investigate the disappearance and reimagine the legacy of a missing Black woman who helped define the&nbsp;digital age.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NEON will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2019\/03\/participant-media-neon-team-up-to-co-distribute-survival-thriller-monos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">produce<\/a> alongside Guetty Felin, an award-winning independent filmmaker, teacher, film curator and co-founder of the multicultural film company BelleMoon Productions; and Co-Producer&nbsp;Olivia McKayla Ross.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;NEON has been a perfect home for this project. They understood our positionality as Black femmes and share our interest in disrupting traditional documentary form,&#8221; Jazmin Jones commented. &#8220;The trusting relationship we have with NEON has exceeded my&nbsp;expectations of the possibilities for a first time Black queer nonbinary filmmaker\u2013 it&#8217;s been a blessing.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Jazmin-Jones-2-870x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-160153\" \/><figcaption>Jazmin Jones, &#8216;Seeking Mavis Beacon&#8217; Director <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jazmin Jones (Director) is a Brooklyn-based, Bay Area raised visual storyteller and thought leader with BUFU: By Us For Us. Her aim is to build platforms for more vibrant and nuanced representation of the marginalized communities she&#8217;s a part&nbsp;of. Working across visual mediums, her projects often echo personal experiences as a queer, Black femme waging intimacy in the Post-Internet era. She&#8217;s been granted the Human and Civil Rights Award from the National Association of&nbsp;Education, the Fair Use Award from the Media That Matters Film Festival, a Civic Arts and Humanities Fellowship with the Flaherty Film Seminar and was recently featured in SFMoMa&#8217;s Raw Materials podcast. In 2015, Jazmin co-founded&nbsp;BUFU: a project-based collective interested in solidarity amongst Us, co-creating experimental models of organizing with You. The collective was awarded Eyebeam&#8217;s 2017 Trust Residency and are 2020 residents with the Brooklyn Community&nbsp;Foundation Incubator Project.
