The documentary follows four other &#8220;lads from Liverpool&#8221; who formed the chart-topping&nbsp;soul and funk&nbsp;band, The Real Thing. Dubbed&nbsp;&#8220;The Black Beatles&#8221; by the British tabloids, they rose from obscurity to break barriers while navigating discrimination and the pitfalls of stardom<strong>\u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>and singing about social conditions ahead of the times. Awarded five stars by The Guardian, which called it &#8220;the searing saga of Britain&#8217;s soul pioneers,&#8221; the film&nbsp;features surviving members of The Real Thing along with international recording artists including Billy Ocean and David Essex reflecting on the importance of the group to music in the UK and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Ghofrane-and-others-holding-the-Tunisian-flag-photo-credit-ArtMattan-Films-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"AfroPoP\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-160725\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.nylas.com\/t1\/272\/c6kbilhk9t57v3y4zp8bqplnw\/9\/354881d872436ea3d30c591a4412934081da8af3d87c87b4950b86cc2b0d5836\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>She Had a Dream<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, directed by Raja Amari (April 11), introduces audiences to Ghofrane, a young Black Tunisian woman whose activism pushes her into a run for political office a decade after the Arab Spring. Her journey of ambition and advocacy has its highs and lows, and shines a light on the often insurmountable prejudices faced by Black women everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-17-at-11.17.31-AM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-160729\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.nylas.com\/t1\/272\/c6kbilhk9t57v3y4zp8bqplnw\/10\/591914c4fb3c7af867aea4340397a7b58252f9aa4e6250153bcfa5b11870e2e4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Downstream to Kinshasa<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, directed by Dieudo Hamadi (April 18), travels to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to capture the treacherous trip from Kisangani to Kinshasa that several surviving victims of the Six-Day War \u2014 all now living with permanent injuries or amputations from the conflict \u2014 embark on to plead their case for compensation two decades after the tragedy. The film has received several awards at festivals including the Cleveland International Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival and the International Festival and Forum on Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-17-at-11.10.16-AM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-160728\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.nylas.com\/t1\/272\/c6kbilhk9t57v3y4zp8bqplnw\/11\/e91c5153607775f45b3e925a282745b74d277ff63bd7ef9073ff3d950868fd8d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Restitution? Africa&#8217;s Fight for its Art<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>directed by Nora Philippe (April 25), goes to the heart of the international debate about African art, looted by colonizers and populating museums across the Western world, and the fight for the return of the masterworks and religious idols to their rightful countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Revolution-from-Afar-film-still-4-courtesy-of-Aboudigin-Films-1024x426.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-160727\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.nylas.com\/t1\/272\/c6kbilhk9t57v3y4zp8bqplnw\/12\/9dfa5f94e753becaf6aae6600a4051ab3f7d29196f62aa4e6a039afb7100c417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Revolution from Afar<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the award-winning documentary directed by Bentley Brown (May 2), closes the season with a crop of young poets and musicians advocating in support of the revolution in Sudan that followed the 2019 toppling of the dictator Omar al-Bashir and military takeover of the country. Gathering in Brooklyn and Denver, these vibrant young people, whose families left Sudan years earlier reflect on their identity. Are they Sudanese? American? And how can they best help the Sudanese people an ocean away?
