Andr\u00e9 Holland<\/strong> (\u201cThe Eddy,\u201d \u201cMoonlight\u201d) is in discussions to star as Black Panther lead<\/strong>er Huey P. Newton<\/strong> for Apple TV+’s \u201cThe Big Cigar.\u201d The new six-episode limited series tells the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how Newton relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider, the Hollywood producer behind \u201cEasy Rider,\u201d to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Big Cigar\u201d<\/strong> is executive produced and written by Jim Hecht <\/strong>(\u201cWinning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty\u201d) and executive produced and showrun by NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois<\/strong> (\u201cClaws,\u201d \u201cThe Kings of Napa\u201d), with Don Cheadle<\/strong> (\u201cNo Sudden Move,\u201d \u201cBlack Monday,\u201d \u201cHouse of Lies\u201d) on board to direct and executive produce the first two episodes, and based on the eponymous magazine article from Joshuah Bearman<\/strong> (\u201cArgo\u201d), who will also serve as executive producer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Big Cigar\u201d hails from Warner Bros. Television, where Sherman Barrois and her Folding Chair Productions are under an overall deal. The drama is executive produced by Hecht and Sherman Barrois, as well as Bearman, Joshua Davis, and Arthur Spector (\u201cLittle America\u201d), through their production company Epic, a division of Vox Media Studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series marks the latest collaboration for Apple TV+<\/a> and Warner Bros. Television, following the recently announced series orders for \u201cShrinking,\u201d a new comedy that will star Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, with Segel also serving as writer and executive producer alongside \u201cTed Lasso\u201d Emmy Award winners Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein; \u201cBad Monkey,\u201d a new drama from Lawrence that will star Vince Vaughn, who will also serve as executive producer; as well as the global hit series \u201cTed Lasso,\u201d which broke records in 2021 as the most-nominated freshman comedy in Emmy history, and landed a total of seven Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Big Cigar\u201d is the second collaboration for Epic and Apple TV+. It joins the returning award-winning series \u201cLittle America\u201d produced by Bearman, Spector, along with Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, Lee Eisenberg, Alan Yang and Academy Award winner Si\u00e2n Heder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
