Season four ended as one of the network\u2019s most-streamed series ever, averaging 4.2 million weekly viewers.\u00a0<em>THE CHI,\u00a0<\/em>from 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Television (<em>HOMELAND<\/em>)<em>,\u00a0<\/em>is currently in production on 10 episodes in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re so honored to be in our fifth season and grateful to the fans that show up for us and make sure people know about\u00a0<em>THE CHI<\/em>,\u201d said series creator and executive producer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2022\/02\/lena-waithes-hillman-grad-productions-indeed-announce-winners-for-rising-voices-initiative-season-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lena Waithe<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cWe appreciate the fans so much and hope everyone enjoys this upcoming season. Lots of love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Produced entirely in its namesake city,\u00a0<em>THE CHI\u00a0<\/em>is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Season five cast includes Jacob Latimore (<em>Like a Boss<\/em>),\u00a0Alex Hibbert (<em>Moonlight<\/em>),\u00a0Yolonda Ross (<em>Treme),<\/em>\u00a0Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James and Curtiss Cook (<em>West Side Story<\/em>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Jason Weaver and Iman Shumpert <\/strong>are set to return as guest stars, along with previously announced new guest stars <strong>Nia Jervier<\/strong> (<em>Dear White People, Twenties<\/em>) as Tierra, the poised, polished and driven god-niece of Douda (Cook), whom he recruits for a rebranding effort; and <strong>Carolyn Michelle Smith<\/strong> (<em>Russian Doll,<\/em>\u00a0<em>House of Cards<\/em>) as Deja, a new love interest for Shaad (Weaver) who helps him level up in more ways than one.\u00a0 In addition,<strong> L\u2019lerr\u00e9t Jazelle<\/strong> plays Fatima, a local journalist who wants the best for her neighborhood and isn\u2019t afraid to hold politicians\u2019 feet to the fire to get the truth, and <strong>Antonyah Allen<\/strong> is Simone, Kevin\u2019s (Hibbert) new classmate, a creative introvert who constantly challenges him and opens his mind to new experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with Emmy\u00a0winner Waithe (<em>Twenties, Boomerang<\/em>), the series is executive produced by Academy Award\u00a0and Emmy winner Common (<em>Selma<\/em>), Aaron Kaplan (<em>A Million Little Things, The Neighborhood<\/em>), Rick Famuyiwa (<em>Dope<\/em>), Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia, Rishi Rajani, CEO of Hillman Grad Productions, and showrunner Justin Hillian.\u00a0Jewel Coronel has been upped from co-executive producer to executive producer for season five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screen-Shot-2022-04-22-at-9.38.06-AM-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-161508\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The highly anticipated fifth season of SHOWTIME&#8217;S hit drama series\u00a0THE CHI\u00a0will return with its first new episode on Friday, June 24th, available on streaming and on demand for all SHOWTIME subscribers before making its on-air debut on Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET\/PT.
