The documentary explores Hip Hop\u2019s socially conscious roots and stars many of rap\u2019s top stars and cultural commentators. It is executive produced by Chuck D and takes a deep dive into Hip Hop culture, dance and artistry and its political awakening over the last 50 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World<\/em> chronicles the rise of Hip Hop from a New York City underground culture to a global force for change and examines the struggles and triumphs of Black communities, as seen\u00a0 through the lens of hip hop culture. The stories of injustice shared by Hip Hop artists through decades of racial and political uprising, have become an important part of the history of racism in the US. Hip Hop music speaks the truth about the plight of Black America, probably more than any other music to come before it. Its authenticity resonates beyond the streets of New York where it was born finding audiences outside the US facing similar struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/ladies-first-a-story-of-women-in-hip-hop-netflix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Netflix Releases Trailer and Key Art for \u2018Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 1 1'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Fight-The-Power-Chuck-D-image-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-164531\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World &#8211; Chuck D &#8211; Courtesy of the MVAAFF<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Chuck D is one of the main speakers\/historians of the project speaking on the early origins of hip hop and how the genre rose as a direct response to the circumstances -racial, political, economic and social\u00a0 &#8211; that black people were experiencing at the time. The doc takes us through the historic assassinations of our leaders, as well as the controversial draft, Vietnam war and the protests against it. It examines the music that came out of these times, like &#8220;Say It Loud \u2013 I\u2019m Black and I\u2019m Proud&#8221; by <strong>James Brown<\/strong> and<strong> Syl Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> &#8220;Is It Because I\u2019m Black&#8221; or &#8220;Seize the Time&#8221; by future Black Panther party leader<strong> Elaine Brown<\/strong>.
