On Saturday, January 29, writer\/ director Malcolm D. Lee <\/strong>and the cast of his debut film, 1999’s ‘The Best Man,’<\/strong> gathered together at a restaurant in Los Angeles to celebrate the twelve year anniversary of the movie\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan, Harold Perrineau, Melissa DeSousa, Monica Calhoun, Malcolm D. Lee, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut,<\/strong> and Terrence Howard<\/strong> were all in attendance.<\/p>\n

Produced by Spike Lee<\/strong>‘s (Malcolm’s cousin) production company, 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks<\/strong>, the romantic comedy opened #1 at the box office when it came on October 22, 1999.<\/p>\n

“The Best Man was the right film at the right time. There were few films prior or since that film that spoke to the generation of African-Americans who I knew, lived, worked, loved and laughed with. I’ve been gratefully astounded over the years at the audience response to the film,” stated Malcolm Lee.<\/p>\n

With a reunion this big, many are wondering if a sequel is in the works and Lee answered that question.<\/p>\n

“People have often asked “Whatever happened to those characters? Did Jordan ever find a man? Does Murch stay with Candy? Do Lance and Mia live happily ever after?” I have never really taken the time to answer those questions. But they keep getting asked and in light of how it is in heavy rotation on cable TV it very well may be a sign that those questions need to be answered.”<\/p>\n
