The film follows a day in the life of William \u201cWoody\u201d Watson (Rainey Jr.), a shy and somewhat timid 13-year old in search of a family and a better life.   Looking to his ex-con Uncle Vincent (Common), Woody hopes he\u2019s found the father figure he\u2019s never had.  But when his Uncle\u2019s desire to create a legitimate life for himself clashes with the chaos of his past, Woody must decide where to stand, with his beloved Uncle, or against him.<\/p>\n<p>No newcomer to the big screen, Common has recently wrapped up roles in<strong> &#8216;New Years Eve&#8217; <\/strong>(New Line, December 9th), &#8216;<strong>The Odd Life of Timothy Green&#8217; <\/strong>(Disney) and as soon as filming is wrapped on &#8216;L.U.V.,&#8217; Common will begin shooting a starring role in AMC\u2019s new series <strong>&#8216;Hell on Wheels.&#8217;<\/strong> Common\u2019s much anticipated new album <strong>\u201cThe Dreamer\/The Believer\u201d <\/strong>will be released in Fall of 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Production begins this week on Sheldon Candis\u2019 feature film which also stars <strong>Dennis Haysbert<\/strong> ,<strong>Danny Glover<\/strong>,<strong> Charles S. Dutton, Megan Good, Michael K. Williams, Russell Hornsby, Lonette McKee, Tracey Heggins,<\/strong> and newcomers  <strong>Michael Rainey Jr.<\/strong> and <strong>Marz Lovejoy<\/strong>. An original script by Candis and <strong>Justin Wilson<\/strong>, L.U.V. will shoot in Baltimore.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-6436\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2011\/04\/common-added-to-sheldon-candis-l-u-v\/l-u-v-cast\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload aligncenter size-full wp-image-6436\" title=\"L.U.V cast\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 580 194'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/L.U.V-cast.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been extremely fortunate in putting together an amazing cast for this project,\u201d said producer Jason M. Berman.  \u201cAnd finding an undiscovered talent like Michael Rainey Jr. doesn\u2019t happen often enough \u2013 the dynamic between his Woody and Common\u2019s Vincent brings an amazing energy to the project,\u201d added producer Gordon Bijelonic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVincent is a uniquely conflicted character,\u201d said Common.  \u201cI found an appeal in his desire to move past his failures and onto the right track, and the challenges that presents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>L.U.V. is Candis\u2019 feature directorial debut after developing the script in the Film Independent Directors Lab.  Both Candis and Wilson are graduates of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L.U.V.<\/strong> is a co-production of FilmForward Independent, Bijelonic\/Turner Films and Stony Island Films.  Producers are<strong> Jason M. Berman <\/strong>(Seven Days in Utopia), <strong>Gordon Bijelonic <\/strong>(Another Happy Day),<strong> Michael Jenson, Joel Newton, Datari Turner<\/strong> (Video Girl), <strong>Common<\/strong> and <strong>Derek Dudley<\/strong>.  The film was cast by Mary Vernieu, C.S.A. and Lindsay Graham.
