This production is slated to hit the boards, Spring of 2012. Theatre TBA.<\/p>\n<p>Underwood recently starred in the now-cancelled NBC series, &#8216;<strong>The Event<\/strong>.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Streetcar was last seen on Broadway in 2005 starring <strong>Natasha Richardson, Amy Ryan<\/strong> and <strong>John C, Reilly<\/strong>. Front Row Production\u2019s multi-racial production of A Streetcar Named Desire is a follow-up to their highly successful Broadway production of <strong>Cat on a Hot Tin Roof<\/strong>, which starred <strong>Terrence Howard, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose<\/strong> and <strong>James Earl Jones<\/strong> and was directed by <strong>Debbie Allen<\/strong>.  The production subsequently moved to London\u2019s West End (with Jones and Rashad joined by <strong>Sanaa Lathan<\/strong> as Maggie, and <strong>Adrian Lester<\/strong> as Brick) where it was honored with the \u201cWhat\u2019s Onstage\u201d and the prestigious \u201cOlivier\u201d awards for Best Revival.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9153\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/2011\/06\/blair-underwood-to-make-broadway-debut\/alia-jones-and-stephen-byrd\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-9153\" title=\"Alia Jones and Stephen Byrd\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 213 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Alia-Jones-and-Stephen-Byrd-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Set against the backdrop of New Orleans&#8217; gritty French Quarter, <strong>Tennessee Williams<\/strong>&#8216; Pulitzer Prize winning drama, A Streetcar Named Desire tells the tale of former school teacher and socialite <strong>Blanche DuBois<\/strong>, as she&#8217;s forced to move in with her sister <strong>Stella<\/strong> and her animalistic husband Stanley (Blair Underwood). But the fragile, Blanche quickly gets a gritty life lesson in the seamy, steamy underbelly of 1940&#8217;s New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>Underwood\u2019s theater credits include his 2004 workshop\/tour of his one-man show <strong>IM4: From the Mountaintop to Hip Hop<\/strong>.  The play, which he created and conceived and was written by his brother <strong>Frank Underwood<\/strong>, was the story of a rap mogul who gets gunned down.  During his heavenly journey, the mogul meets the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   Underwood played eight characters in all. Other theater credits include the New York revival of the award-winning musical, <strong>Purlie<\/strong> opposite <strong>Anika Noni Rose<\/strong>, <strong>Measure for Measure<\/strong>, at the 1993 New York Shakespeare Festival, El Negro en Peru, The Game of Love and Chance, and Love Letters opposite <strong>Alfre Woodard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blair
