Kerry Washington To Play Broomhilda in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’<\/strong>

Kerry Washington<\/strong> has won the role of Broomhilda in ‘Django Unchained.’ <\/strong>Director Quentin Tarantino <\/strong>made his choice and The Weinstein Company began exclusive negotiations with her CAA reps last night.<\/p>\n

She\u2019ll play the long-suffering slave wife of Django (Jamie Foxx<\/strong>), who is freed by a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz<\/strong>) and taught the tricks of that trade. Django\u2019s real desire is to be reunited with his wife, who winds up in a variety of unsavory places and whose travails drive the plot. It leads to a confrontation in Candyland, a ranch owned by the notorious Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Tarantino had his eye on Washington from the beginning, but he was also intrigued with making a discovery in the role, and that led to a long casting search before the director went back to Washington for the female lead.<\/p>\n

The Weinstein Co. will distribute the film domestically, while Sony Pictures will release the pic overseas. Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone<\/strong> and Reginald Hudlin<\/strong> will produce. Harvey Weinstein, Michael Shamberg<\/strong> and Jim Skotchdopole<\/strong> are exec producing.<\/p>\n

Washington, who previously worked with Foxx in his Oscar winning role as Ray Charles in ‘Ray,’ <\/strong>will next be seen in ‘The Details,’<\/strong> and she stars with Eddie Murphy<\/strong> in ‘A Thousand Words.’<\/strong><\/p>\n
