After sitting on the shelf <\/strong>f<\/a>or more than three years, with bootleg copies of the film selling in the streets, Charles Randolph Wright<\/strong>‘s film, ‘Mama, I Want To Sing!,<\/strong>‘ is officially making its way to audience through home video.<\/p>\n

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the film on DVD on February 14, 2012.<\/p>\n

An adaptation of the off-Broadway gospel stage musical of the same name, written and produced by Vy Higginsen<\/strong> and Ken Wydro<\/strong>, the film was produced by Vision Films and CodeBlack Entertainment.<\/p>\n

Talented but na\u00efve, Amara Winter (multi-platinum selling artist Ciara<\/strong>) is a young gospel singer who dreams of pop stardom. Raised in a tight-knit community, Amara is discovered by agents who quickly propel her to the top with recording sessions and television appearances. Soured by the sudden media attention, Amara’s preacher mother (Lynn Whitfield<\/strong>) implores her to stay grounded. Amara faithfully pursues her music career even in the face of creating a strained relationship with her mother, and turns to her father (Grammy Award\u00ae-winner Marvin Winans<\/strong>) and Sister Carrie (Patti LaBelle<\/strong>) for support. On her way to the limelight, Amara must learn to navigate the often-treacherous world of celebrity and find a way to remain true to herself and to her family.<\/p>\n

Also included in the film are Billy Zane, Ben Vereen, Hill Harper, Juanita Bynum, Kim Porter<\/strong>, and Kevin Phillips.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The official movie trailer was released and premiered on September 22, 2009. It was set to premiere September 26, 2009 at the Urbanworld Film Festival in New York, but due to technical issues it was canceled. The film was also slated to premiere on July 23, 2010, at the Faith Film Festival, but was also cancelled as well.<\/p>\n

In an October 2010 interview with the website Shadow and Act, Jeff Clanagan (CEO of Codeblack Entertainment) announced that the film was set for a January 14, 2011 release. However, it was pulled from the 10-15 theaters it was scheduled for at the last minute, with no current release date.<\/p>\n
