Variety<\/a> is reporting that Legendary Pictures is swinging for the fences with relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman<\/strong>, who’s in final negotiations to play Jackie Robinson<\/strong> in the biopic “42.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brian Helgeland<\/strong> will direct from a script he penned.<\/p>\n

Pic follows story of Robinson, the first African-American to play in the major leagues. Legendary had no comment on the casting.<\/p>\n

Boseman’s previous work experience has been in the TV world, having done episodic roles on numerous TV series such as ‘Cold Case,’ ‘Lie to Me,’ ‘Lincoln Heights,’ ‘The Glades,’ ‘Justified,’ <\/strong>and more recently ‘Fringe.’ <\/strong><\/p>\n

Deadline.com <\/a>had reported earlier in the week that Legendary Pictures is courting Harrison Ford<\/strong> to play Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey.<\/p>\n

The site also mentions that Hollywood has long been interested in bringing Robinson\u2019s story to the screen. Spike Lee<\/strong> once tried to direct a version with Denzel Washington<\/strong> in the lead role.<\/p>\n

Legendary\u2019s Thomas Tull <\/strong>and Jon Jashni <\/strong>will produce, with Dick Cook<\/strong> exec producing.<\/p>\n
