“The L Word” star Jennifer Beals<\/strong> is set to topline and produce the indie jazz pic “The Lord of Vinyl<\/strong>,” which will mark the directorial debut of Dennis Bartok<\/strong>, who wrote the script and will also produce with Patrick Cunningham<\/strong> (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”).<\/p>\n

Pic follows the bittersweet life and comic despair of a lonely 40-something Angeleno who’s obsessed with jazz and hides from the disappointment of the world inside the beauty of music. He unexpectedly finds himself exploring the possibility of new love with an unhappily married post office worker (Beals) just as he attempts a reconciliation with his estranged 11-year old daughter, now living with his ex-wife and former best friend.<\/p>\n

A major plot point of the pic involves the possibility of a single surviving recording by the enigmatic “godfather of jazz,” New Orleans musician Buddy Bolden<\/strong>, who inspired Louis Armstrong<\/strong> before he died in a Louisiana mental hospital in 1931.<\/p>\n

Pic aims to be the definitive movie for this generation about the love of jazz, which past films such as “Round Midnight” and Clint Eastwood<\/strong>‘s “Bird” have also explored.<\/p>\n
