Entertainment Weekly<\/strong> is reporting that Malcolm D. Lee<\/strong> will direct Scary Movie 5<\/strong>, with production slated to begin this summer.<\/p>\n

Casting is underway but David Zucker<\/strong>, who wrote and directed both Scary Movie 3 and 4, will also be returning to co-write and produce the fifth installment alongside Lee.<\/p>\n

Back in 2009, The Weinstein Company had announced that a fifth installment would be made, setting for January 11, 2013 release. ‘Scary Movie 4’ came out in 2006 and grossed $90M domestically, with a total sum of $178M worldwide.<\/p>\n

Lee is known for directing urban films such as ‘The Best Man,’ ‘Undercover Brother,’ ‘Roll Bounce,’ ‘Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins’,<\/strong> and 2008’s ‘Soul Men,’<\/strong> which starred Samuel L. Jackson<\/strong> and featured the last on-screen performances of Bernie Mac<\/strong> and Isaac Hayes. <\/strong><\/p>\n

In late 2011, Lee was in talks with Universal Pictures to helm a sequel<\/a> to his debut film, ‘The Best Man,’ but there hasn’t been any official updates to that film since.<\/p>\n

The Wayans Brothers<\/strong> started the franchise for Dimension Films until David Zucker<\/strong> came over and wrote and directed Scary Movie 3 and 4.<\/p>\n

Scary Movie 5 is still slated to open on January 11th, 2013.<\/p>\n
